A EUROPEAN DEFENCE FUND PROJECT
ABBOT (Project No 101224587) is a European defence research project financed by the European Defence Fund (EDF), an EU initiative that supports collaborative research and development of defence technologies across Member States.
As part of this initiative, ABBOT brings together partners from across the EU to advance EM attenuation and shielding effectiveness of multifunctional composites that contribute to Europe’s defence autonomy, resilience and security.
7 partners from 5 member states
MEET THE CONSORTIUM
University of Ioannina (UOI)
UOI is responsible for overall project coordination. Through its Composite materials, advanced Structures & electronic Devices - 3D Printing Laboratory (CSD-3D Lab), UOI advances CAD/CAM/CAE, additive manufacturing and multifunctional composite materials, including printed electronics in fibre-reinforced polymer composites.
Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV)
UPV leads efforts in MXene synthesis, focusing on environmentally friendly methods aligned with EU sustainability goals, including fluoride-free etching processes and green solvents such as ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents.
Addcomposites Oy (ADD)
ADD specialises in Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) and additive manufacturing technologies, providing affordable and flexible AFP solutions for precise fibre placement in high-performance composite structures for aerospace, automotive and defence.
Fraunhofer IFAM (FhG-IFAM)
FhG-IFAM designs and synthesises biobenzoxazine resins and reparable patches. These vitrimers provide self-healing capabilities for in-situ repairs in demanding military environments, supporting durability and circular-economy principles.
Fibroline SA (FIB)
FIB develops and commercialises eco-friendly dry powder impregnation processes based on high-voltage electric fields, with lab and pilot tools in Limonest for product development and upscaling in composites and technical textiles.
Universitat de Valencia (UVEG)
UVEG contributes expertise in electromagnetics, composite materials and defence applications, developing characterisation methods and simulating electromagnetic properties aligned with ABBOT’s objectives.
Thales SA — Research & Technology (THA)
THA contributes through the ERM²ES laboratory (Energy and Radiation: Materials, Modelling and Synthesis), covering synthesis of structured artificial materials, functional characterisation, shaping (including 3D-printing) and multi-physics modelling of microwave and related properties.
